Learning from Exodus

This is what I got out of the first 18 chapters of Exodus.

1. Being chosen by God came first, obedience to the law was afterward.
2. Following the law is an outward sign of an inward, spiritual reality.
3. God obligates himself to his people before they obligate themselves.

So whenever I feel like I need to do something to feel chosen by God, remembering this little truth can help me feel the release of obligation and shame that God's grace is intended to do.
